Having been dancing for over twenty years, Antonya loves, loves, loves teaching, training and giving others joy through dance. From high schools, local boutique studios, senior residences and everything in between, Antonya has taught and mentored for the last ten years. Leading classes, workshops, acted and danced in various tv and film, music videos, cultural, fundraisers, and city events; her love to share dance is limitless. One of her favourite things to do is mentor students who are ready to learn how to take dance from just a passion and turn it into a career through her Dance Mentorship Program. Her cultural roots from Trinidad + Tobago also impacts her design in movement and choreography. Her favourite styles? Soca, Afrobeats, Arabic + Bachata. 

FUN FACTS

Did you know, because I am left handed, I always begin teaching with my left hand or foot. However, many students may not notice the difference because I am your mirror image when in front of you during class.

Not being able to dance one day.

What would be a tip/advice you would give to a beginner?

Be you, not anyone else when you dance, try not to look at your feet and look up in the mirror at that beautiful face. 

One thing you learned through dancing that can also be applied to other aspects of life.

Life is the dancer, and you are the dance.

What's your dance background?

Started with classical styles (ballet, jazz, hip-hop) then flowed into Latin, African, Arabic styles. Followed by Fitness, Zumba and Nutrition.

What gets you inspired?

Seeing others connect through movement and music.

How long have you been dancing for?

More than 20 years.
